Live Continuing Education Programs

NEMO AHEC sponsors/co-sponsors a variety of continuing education programs for health care professionals targeted to meet the needs of regional physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, social workers, licensed counselors, EMT/Paramedics, nursing home staff including administrators, RN’s, LPN’s, CNA’s, and allied health care professions.

Most often, programs are pre-approved for continuing education credits through accredited CE organizations, such as the Missouri Nurses Association, MU School of Medicine, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, MU School of Social Work, Missouri Board of Nursing Home Administrators, and others.

Review our calendar for current and upcoming programs that may be of interest.  For more information regarding continuing education programs, please contact Michelle Mollick at mmollick@nemoahec.org or call 660-385-6491.

The Northeast Missouri Rural Health Network www.nmrhn.org also provides continuing education programs for healthcare providers in their 11 county service area. View the NMRHN for a list of upcoming provider education programs.

On-Line Continuing Education

Missouri AHEC provides online health care provider continuing education credits through eMedicine.  Original content articles, updated daily on every known disease and disorder are peer reviewed by four physicians and a doctor of pharmacy.  These articles comprise the continuing education component of eMedicine.

ACLS Computer-Based Recertification Course

ACLS On the Road is a self-paced training via a computer learning system in accordance with the American Heart Association guidelines. NEMO AHEC delivers the system to hospitals, ambulance districts, health professional training programs and healthcare facilities to facilitate the healthcare providers with re-certification. The course consists of skills training, mannequin practice and complete psychomotor and cognitive training.

Certified Nurse Assistant Training

The NEMO AHEC Certified Nurse Assistant Consortium was created in 1994 to fulfill a growing need to train and certify nursing assistants.  The consortium is a unique educational partnership between NEMO AHEC and North Central Missouri College (NCMC) in Trenton, Missouri, currently serving 5 long-term care facilities.  This partnership works much like a “group purchasing agreement” and allows area facilities to “buy” C.N.A. instruction at a significantly reduced rate.

MICHELLE MOLLICK joined NEMO AHEC as Director in March 2002.  She is a 1995 graduate of Truman State University and had six years experience coordinating clinical experiences and graduate medical education programs prior to taking the management position.  Center administration involves the oversight of employees, management of six funding streams; collaboration with area partner agencies and volunteers; and significant contributions to programming.

BECKY DAWSON, BSE, Health Education Coordinator, is responsible for two major programs: the AHEC Professional Corps (APC) and Health Literacy Missouri.
AHEC Professional Corps is an AmeriCorps funded program comprised of licensed/certified health care personnel providing their professional services to selected health care delivery sites in medically underserved communities.
As part of their APC commitment, members participate in community service projects which, in general, help with disaster recovery, community health education, or AHEC health career preparation activities.
Upon completion of the program requirements, APC members earn an education award from the Corporation for National & Community Service for school loan repayment or for future tuition/education expenses.
NEMO AHEC is also part of Health Literacy Missouri (HLM), a program to improve health literacy through education and community efforts.
The project is in cooperation with the Missouri Foundation for Health, the University of Missouri – Columbia, Saint Louis University, the St. Louis Regional Health Commission and Missouri State University. Together, these partners envision Health Literacy Missouri becoming a national leader. Organizers aim to improve the health of all Missourians by providing access to health information in plain language and providing educational resources to help health care providers and consumers communicate more effectively with each other.
For more information on APC or Health Literacy, contact Becky at bdawson@nemoahec.org.
MANDY HERLETH, BA, Continuing Education Coordinator, arranges local, low-cost health care continuing education (CE) offerings in the northern tier communities. These programs are designed to meet the educational and training needs of area physicians, nurses, social workers, licensed counselors, emergency medical professionals, long-term care administrators and other allied health personnel. Most often, programs are pre-approved for CE units through professional accrediting organizations such as the Missouri Nurses Association and others.
In addition to live courses, AHEC partners with the NEMO Telehealth Network to provide CE programs via video conferencing, which enables many providers to “lunch-n-learn” while remaining in their facility or merely traveling to a nearby hospital.
Mandy can be reached at mherleth@sbcglobal.net
DINAH COLES, Office Manager is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Center Office as well as maintaining the financial records.
Dinah is also responsible for scheduling the Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) training consortium, computerized Advanced Cardiac Life Support (A.C.L.S.) training course, student clinical rotations and temporary housing for health professions students who are training in the region.
Dinah has been with NEMO AHEC for 7 years and is very knowledgeable about a variety of activities. Dinah may be contacted at dcoles@nemoahec.org
