Executive Director to Retire

Northeast Missouri Area Health Education Center (NEMO AHEC) announces the retirement of Executive Director Becky Dawson in July this year.  Dawson has been the NEMO AHEC Director since March of 2013.   Five years prior to her appointment as Executive Director, Dawson was NEMO AHEC’s Health Education Coordinator, where she was involved with programs such as “The Great Hospital Adventure” (healthcare careers puppet program designed for elementary students), the ATSU Aging Studies Project (involves community agencies and elders), AHEC Professional Corps (AmeriCorps program for healthcare professionals) and Health Literacy.  During her tenure as the director, Dawson has continued AHEC’s outreach to high school students who are interested in pursuing healthcare careers through the HOSA-Future Health Professionals organization and the ACES (AHEC Career Enhancement Scholars) Program as well as connecting with undergraduate students in healthcare training programs.  Dawson has also been active in promoting the National AHEC Organization’s HPV Immunization Project to provide education to health professionals regarding the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.  Missouri AHEC joined the project in an overall effort to increase HPV vaccination rates as a means of preventing cancer.
